The Dolphins have done well in free agency to address some of the holes. While the Dolphins will target the best offensive lineman available to them, they do not "have" to draft one in the first round... as long as they get one with one their second round pick. If Zach Martin is not available at pick #19, there is a strong possibly they could go with ILB CJ Mosely, TE Eric Ebron.WR Odell Bekham, or even WR Kelvin Benjamin. One of those should be available for the Dolphins. There is a lot of pre-draft rumble that the Dolphins want to grab a WR in the first round, and then go OL in the 2nd round. The Dolphins could even trade down later in the first round to take OT Morgan Moses. I think there is an excellent chance the Dolphins select ILB CJ Mosely with this pick as they did not address this position in free agency. Jeff Ireland's changes last year actually caused the Dolphins defense to slide. New GM Hickey offered MLB D'Qwell Jackson the starting MLB position with the thought of moving Ellerbe to OLB, but Jackson chose the Indianapolis Colts instead. A lot of times a GM will address one side of the ball in free agency and invest a high round draft pick on the other side. Mosely makes a lot of sense here as well as Zach Martin. The continued talk around Miami is their interest in OL personnel and possibly having to trade up to get Taylor Lewan or Zack Martin. Miami now only have 6 picks, so I just don't see this happening. Not much buzz has been mentioned about Mosely to Miami, but he certainly would fill a position that the Dolphins have interest in addressing and Mosely is a candidate for BPA at #19. Also, the Dolphins DL played solid up front last year, but the linebackers for the Dolphins were HORRID against the run. Mosely has the physical and mental makeup to be a Day 1 starter and Pro Bowl ability. (Last Mock: no change) |

Round One: Most mock drafts have the Dolphins picking Tackle Zack Martin in the first round. Martin is regarded as the fourth best lineman in the draft and the last of the top tier. If Martin is gone the Dolphins could trade down or reach for Guard Xavier Su'a-Filo ranked best of the second tier Offensive Lineman. They could also fill a need at Inside Linebacker with CJ Mosely from Alabama. If big Receivers Mike Evans or Eric Ebron drop they would be a steal. 1. Tackle Zack Martin - Compares to Logan Mankins (Note: George Gibson was Phinfever.com's draft analyst before having to step down due to his busy schedule.) |

The Dolphins trade down and get their guy anyway. With Baltimore taking Calvin Pryor and Arizona taking Dee Ford in my latest Mock, Martin was still available at pick 26. Martin will initially play right tackle for Miami but down the line could kick back into guard. This pick would almost solidify the line that was such a weakness last year. *-This pick could just as easily be Morgan Moses if in fact Martin is already taken. Either way we trade down and still get our right tackle to bookend with Brandon Albert. Rd. 2 (50) Rd. 3 (81) |

Alabama linebacker C.J. Mosley has the versatility to line up anywhere on the second level but projects best as either an outside or inside linebacker in a 4-3 defense. He is considered by many to be the best linebacker in the draft class. CBS Sports' Rob Rang compares Mosley to Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Lavonte David: "Like David, Mosley's combination of toughness, elite instincts and superb athleticism offer the versatility of lining up inside or out, and have enabled him to be one of the nation's top all-around linebackers." Miami has some solid options at tight end, including Charles Clay who emerged last year as a reliable receiving threat. But no tight end on the Dolphins' roster can match the ability of Ebron and what he brings to the offense. (Last mock: OT Morgan Moses) |

Miami's got plenty of needs but offensive line remains an important part of the equation, especially if the Dolphins expect Ryan Tannehill to progress. Or, you know, survive. Martin's got the flexibility that Miami needs on this offensive line. |

It's way too obvious. The Dolphis could play around with the idea of taking one of the top receivers on the board, and they might just go for the best player available, but there's no need to mess around when a need area could be taken care of with Martin. He might not be Jake Matthews, Greg Robinson or Taylor Lewan, but he's an NFL starter either at tackle or guard. |

This is the best case scenario for Miami. They’ll have to trade up for any of the top three tackles, but Martin is the next best lineman in the draft and would be an immediate starter in Miami. If he’s gone, there isn’t an obvious next best choice, so they should strongly consider trading up a few slots to make this happen. If he’s gone, a wide receiver or a trade down might be the next option (Last Mock: no change) |

As you may have heard, the Dolphins quietly went through some in-season re-shuffling of their offensive line last season. Losing two starters on the OL propels this into a giant need pick, and Moses might be the best of what's left at the OT position. Moses has drawn comparisons to former Chargers steal Marcus McNeil. Eric Ebron |
TE |
If the Dolphins are hoping to fix their offensive line then Dennis Hickey and the rest of the Miami front office wouldn't be pleased with the output of DRAFTSIM this time around. Picks 2, 9, 12, and 16 are the top OTs. What now? Reach for a second-tier OT in Moses or Bitonio? Or an OG like Yankey or Su'a-Filo? Of course, there are rumors that the Dolphins actually love Kouandjio, despite his potential health problems. Smokescreen? Hard to say. Should they remain steadfast and use pick 19 on a position other than OL it could be to add weapons for Tannehill, who is likely entering his "make-or-break" season as the Dolphins' starter. Miami wanted an athletic threat at the TE position last season but saw their pass-catching match-up nightmare (Dustin Keller) suffer a horrific knee injury during the preseason. A duo of Clay - a Free Agent next Spring - and Ebron would give the 'phins a TE set that would have the potential to upstage Gronkowski/Hernandez from a few years ago. I don't consider this Miami's No. 1 need, but this is when "best player on the board" really comes into play. Mosley could be passed up until this range due to some injury concerns and positional value, but this is a big-time playmaker who can lead your defense and is worthy of going higher. The thing people need to remember about Mosley is he doesn't need to come off the field. The guy is a gifted player in coverage from his position. Round 2: (Last Mock: S Calvin Pryor, Louisville) |

Morgan Moses |
OT |
The biggest concern I have with this pick is whether the Dolphins think that Moses can play at right tackle, because he really came into his own during the 2013 season when he played left tackle after playing right earlier in his career. If Miami takes him here, it will obviously want Moses to start opposite newly acquired left tackle Branden Albert, so the Dolphins need to be comfortable with Moses making the transition. If they are, this is a great pick and potentially a steal at No. 19. He possesses excellent size and length, and he played his best against his best individual competition this season. OT |
The Dolphins addressed the left side of their offensive line in free agency, but still could stand to add another piece or two to the puzzle on the right side via the draft. Zack Martin has the ability to play either RT or RG, giving Miami some much needed flexibility. Even if Taylor Lewan of Michigan happens to be on the board, I can't see him being a consideration for Miami given that he has been charged with battery and is being questioned in connection with allegedly intimidating the victim in a teammate's rape investigation in two separate incidents. |

Zach Martin |
OT |
The Dolphins might have entered this off-season with the thinnest offensive line in the NFL. They signed Branden Albert this off-season and he’ll significantly upgrade their blindside protection. They signed Shelley Smith and are paying him starter’s money so he’s locked in at one of the guard spots. Dallas Thomas, a 2013 3rd round pick, can play either the other guard spot or right tackle. However, they still need offensive line help. Martin can play either right tackle or guard and his versatility is the reason he gets drafted over Lewan. He’s a week 1 starter who will probably start at right tackle like last year’s #1 pick Justin Pugh, but he could eventually end up at guard. Round 2:

OG |
Combine/Pro Day: 4.97 40, 26 Bench, 08'07" Brd Jump Su'a-Filo is a very strong and athletic OG with excellent technique that can play any scheme due to his athleticism and power. He is the most NFL-ready guard of this draft class and would fit perfectly in Miami's zone-blocking sceme, even though UCLA ran more of a power sceme. This guy will bolster the offensive line and immedeiatly make the run and pass games better. Alternate picks: Jake Matthews (trade up?), Eric Ebron, Zach Martin, C.J. I am still intrigued by Florida State wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin, at 6’5″ and 240 pounds, but Mosley might be the only middle linebacker that could upgrade our defense, while Benjamin may not even be the best available receiver at this point in the draft.
The big, bruising running back would be a beast for Miami, especially on third down and short and at the goal line. Moreno would be the starter and Hyde would be the thunder to Lamar Miller’s lightning off the bench. |

I’ve long-linked Zack Martin of Notre Dame to this pick, but Su’a-Filo seems to be more highly viewed than Martin as of now. While he plays a less-premium position, the Dolphins need instant guard contributors, and Su’a-Filo is the best in the draft. (Last Mock: OT Zach Martin, Notre Dame) |

There have been reports of late that the Dolphins may look at Alabama’s Cyrus Kouandjio. I’m not buying it. While Kouandjio is a good tackle candidate, he reportedly has an arthritic knee. Martin helped his stock more than maybe anyone at the Senior Bowl. The Dolphins lost two starting linemen to the Incognito-Martin saga so they could pluck a few offensive line prospects in May. ast offseason the Dolphins had an obvious, glaring hole at offensive tackle after losing Jake Long as a free agent. Miami could have traded for Branden Albert or drafted Lane Johnson but they instead chose to move Jonathan Martin to the blindside, where he struggled mightily as a rookie, and sign Tyson Clabo, who was well into his thirties and had just been released by the Falcons. Miami also selected tackle / guard ‘tweener Dallas Thomas in the third round. That plan blew up in their faces with Martin continuing to look overmatched before leaving the team amidst an embarrassing bullying scandal, Clabo resembling something akin to a revolving door and Thomas unable to crack the starting lineup inside or outside. Not only did the Phins completely fail to fix a significant problem despite ample resources and options but they actually made matters worse. Notre Dame OT Zack Martin isn’t an incredible physical specimen or particularly dominant but he’s a smart, technically sound, battle-tested, four-year starter Zack Martin | Notre Dame Fighting Irish with the ability to play left or right tackle or even guard at the next level. At one point Martin was considered to be more of a fringe first rounder but after a standout performance at the Senior Bowl it's extremely unlikely he escapes the Top 15-20. If Martin isn’t available the Phins could turn their attention to Alabama OT Cyrus Kouandjio, Virginia OT Morgan Moses or UCLA OG Xavier Su’a-Filo. The offensive line is such an overwhelming need that it’s hardly even worth mentioning other alternatives but Alabama ILB CJ Mosley may get a look. |

Taylor |
OT |
Miami made a big move in free agency by signing free agent left tackle Brandon Albert, but their overhaul of the offensive line shouldn't stop there. Miami's success is tied to young QB Ryan Tannehill, who has never been able to feel comfortable behind the sieve of an offensive line the Dolphins have put in front of him. Taylor Lewan would be an immediate upgrade at right tackle for the club as one of the draft's elite pass protectors and an excellent value at 19. Before a recent charge for his role in a fight last year there was talk that Lewan could end up in the top ten on draft day and that some viewed him as the class' second best offensive tackle. His stock has settled in the teens to early 20's and would be an excellent pickup for a team like Miami. (Last Mock: no change) |

Xavier Su'a-Filo |
OG |
For Miami in round one it will not be best player available; it will be best offensive lineman available. With the signing of Jason Fox, Miami can now draft a guard. Right now the best could be the guard Yankey. But do they want another Stanford offensive lineman? I say no. Too many opportunities for the press to kick up the dirt. So I have them drafting Su'a-Filo who sits atop my guard board anyway. (Last Mock: OT Morgan Moses, Virginia) |

The Dolphins wisely added left tackle Branden Albert in free agency, but that's just one of several offensive line pieces that needs to be added. This pick is too early for one of the many right tackles in this year's draft. It is, however, a good spot for Su'a-Filo, the draft's top guard. Put him next to Albert and suddenly the Dolphins are set on one side. Other options: G Gabe Jackson, OT Cyrus Kouandjio, DT Louix Nix |

Calvin Pryor |
S |
I am still holding firm on this pick and believe that he will be the pick on May 8. There is so much talk about the Dolphins selecting a right tackle in the first round. The problem is though that this draft is extremely deep and a solid right tackle can be found in a later round. At the end of the day, the right tackle isn't going to win the team any games in crunch time. In addition, a right tackle can be helped by a running back (Knowshown Moreno) and/or a good blocking tight end in pass protection. With a linebacker, you will get someone who can shut down the run in crunch time, make a huge sack in crunch time, and/or break up a pass in crunch time. |

Martin sort of sits alone in the 1A group of offensive tackles — behind Robinson/Matthews/Lewan but above the second-tier group of guys like Morgan Moses and Cyrus Kouandjio. At 19, Miami would be reaching for one of those players, which is why the Dolphins might pass on OT there in favor of another position. To avoid having to put off addressing its biggest need, Miami moved up a few spots here (at relatively minimal cost) to take a versatile, talented lineman in Martin. (Trade up with Pittsburgh). |

The Dolphins still continue to find the player many have had them zeroed in on for months now: Martin, the ex-Irish offensive lineman whose versatility at tackle or guard should make him very attractive to a Dolphins team with some rather well-known needs at those positions. If there's a defensive player that is beginning to be linked to Miami, it's Alabama inside linebacker C.J. Mosley, whose health seems to be his biggest question mark. (Last Mock: no change) |

It’s clear that the Dolphins still need help along their offensive line — signing Branden Albert in free agency was a good first step, but there are other issues. Miami needs a left guard to replace Richie Incognito (which shouldn’t be tough; ancillary issues aside, Incognito played horribly in 2013) and right tackle Tyson Clabo allowed 11 sacks in 962 snaps last season. Martin isn’t an elite pass blocker, but he could slip inside to guard or move to right tackle and become a very solid addition to a front five that will get quarterback Ryan Tannehill injured if serious changes aren’t made. |

The Dolphins could be bluffing but seem to love Kouandjio and his aggressive nature. Plenty of organizations have red-flagged Kouandjio (at least in the first round) for potential knee problems, but others have compared his skill set favorably to his former linemate with the Crimson Tide, D.J. Fluker, who the Chargers eventually took 11th overall in 2013. One thing that is certain is the Fish need help on the O-line. Miami allowed a league-high 58 sacks and couldn't protect Ryan Tannehill with Jonathan Martin and Richie Incognito or without them. Zack Martin had an outstanding Senior Bowl, and there's talk that despite his short arms, he could be used at left tackle. Worst-case scenario, he's a stud guard or a right tackle. Miami needs help at both positions in the wake of the Richie Incognito-Jonathan Martin incident. Also, here's something to keep in mind: As Charlie Campbell noted on our NFL Draft Rumors page, "Dennis Hickey has a huge inclination to go for high-character players. If a player is perceived to be a thug, gang-banger or have a drug issue, that could knock them off Miami's board. I could see Zack Martin being a fit." There was a recent report about the Dolphins liking Cyrus Kouandjio, but that is obvious smoke, much like the D.J. Fluker-Miami connection last year.
